  • SLS & SLES
    Sodium Lauryl Sulfate & Sodium Laureth Sulfate SLS and SLES are surfactants used for their foaming properties. Can cause skin and eye irritations, especially in individuals with sensitive skin. On top of that, SLS & SLES can be contaminated with a byproduct known as 1,4-dioxane, which is a potential carcinogen.
  • PHTHALATES
    Common Phthalates: Dibutyl Phthalate, Diethyl Phthalate Phthalates are used to increase the flexibility of plastics & helps fragrances last longer. They are endocrine disruptors that can interfere with hormone function and studies found phthalates are linked to reproductive & developmental issues.
  • OXYBENZONE
    Oxybenzone is a chemical agent. Can penetrate the skin and cause allergic reactions. It is an endocrine disruptor and studies have linked it to impacts on hormones.
  • TRICLOSAN
    Triclosan is an antibacterial agent found in common soap products. Triclosan can disrupt thyroid hormone levels and contribute to antibiotic resistance. Studies also link triclosan to liver toxicity.
  • PARABENS
    Name-brand & store-bought soap products contain preservatives called parabens. Parabens are used as preservatives and can mimic estrogen in the body - leading to hormonal disruptions and an increased risk of breast cancer. Common parabens found in said products are Methylparaben, Propylparaben, and Butylparaben.
  • LEAD & OTHER HEAVY METALS
    Production of cosmetic and skincare products involves a wide range of raw materials, each serve different functions. Functions may include providing texture, color, preservation, or skin benefits. Examples of raw materials: Petrochemicals- Derived from petroleum and natural gas. Used to create various ingredients including Mineral Oils, Petrolatum, & Paraffin. Silicones- Synthetic compounds made from silica. Used to make products like Dimethicone & Cyclopentasiloxane.     Hydroquinone is used in skin-lightening products. Can cause ochronosis- a skin condition that results in darkening and thickening of the skin. Studies have also linked it to cancer and organ toxicity.
  • POLYETHYLENE GLYCOLS (PEGs)
    PEGs are used as thickeners, solvents, and softeners. Can be contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, both of which are known carcinogens.
  • FORMALDEHYDE & FRPs
    FRPs stands for Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. Exposure can cause allergic reactions, skin irritation, and respiratory issues.
